Winter Musical

We are very excited about our Winter Musical on Sunday.  The program begins at 2:00 but all kindergartners should be there by 1:45.  Please have your bear dressed in white, wearing the white bear ears they took home last Tuesday.

Venn Diagram

My kindergartners are getting to be experts at doing Venn Diagrams.  After a discussion of The First Thanksgiving and celebrations of their Thanksgivings, they compared and contrasted the two using a Venn Diagram.  We used two hoola hoops as a visual tool and they chose three ideas to write on their individual Venn Diagrams.

Tribe of Hasik

Thanksgiving Feast

All the kindergartners at Concord School reenacted the First Thanksgiving dressed as Pilgrims and Native Americans.  After a reading of the Legend of the Five Kernels of Corn and a recitation of a poem,  they feasted on many of the same healthy foods as the Pilgrims and Indians.

Thank you, parents, for your donations of food and your help at the feast.

As you can see in the pictures, we were dressed as Indians.  The students made their feathery headbands,  beaded necklaces, and colored Indian pictures for their fringed costumes.

We Love Our Families!

The kindergartners are talented artists and good writers as is evident in the family portraits and stories they have recently created as an ending to our unit, Family Time.   Check out these works of art in our kindergarten hallway.

Pilgrims and Indians

The kindergartners have been very busy learning about the Pilgrim's voyage to the New World and Native American Indians. They can say good morning in Navaho, sing an Indian song, and recite a poem about the Pilgrims and Indians.  They picked out their Indian names and made a picture of an Indian using their handprints.  They wrote a sentence using Indian symbols on pretend bearskins.  Check out their great work on display in our kindergarten hallway.

Comparing Apples and Pumpkins

After the students listened to a story about apples and pumpkins, we shared ideas about how they are alike and different.  We used two hoola-hoops as a Venn Diagram to show this.  It was a great visual lesson and engaged all the kindergartners as they eagerly participated.

Letter of the Day

My eager beavers recovered from Halloween very quickly and are ready to learn.  They worked hard today on the letter J, brainstorming words that begin with that letter, writing the letter on their chalkboards, and cutting and gluing in pictures that start with that letter.  They wrote two sentences using j words and are good at using proper spacing, capitalization, and punctuation.  As we write sentences, they are able to spell sight words for me and sound out words that are more difficult.
