FIRST WEEK FUN

WE'RE OFF TO A GREAT START!  In just two days the kindergartners in Room 17 have covered a lot of territory.  My students are settling into the routine and are eager to work.  They have learned class and school rules and are already putting them into practice.  We've had our Morning Meetings during Circle Time and followed with Calendar Activities.  The kindergartners are already recognizing letters and numbers and spelling and reading words from the Morning Message.  They wrote their ABCs and drew their First Day of School Picture.  On Thursday we read a story about Chester Racoon's first day of school which helped to alleviate their fears about missing Mom.  We did a sequencing activity about it, practicing our cutting and pasting, and they did quite well.  On Friday we read the story of the Gingerbread Man.  As we prepared to decorate the little cutouts, we realized that they were missing and needed to go on a hunt to try and find them.  With no luck, we returned to our classroom and discovered that they were mysteriously back.  We discussed bus safety and are learning a song to help us with this very important subject.  To help us learn the days of the week, Madeline taught us the Days of the Week Song.  Way to go, Madeline!

I hope to see you on Monday at Curriculum Night.
